Little Things That Make Me Happy

When you're having one of those really awful, cruddy, nothing's going your way days, what do you like to do to cheer yourself up? I was thinking about this recently when I was having one of those days. I realised there are things I always do without fail to make myself feel better. It's interesting when you stop and think about all the little things that make you happy that you do over and over again. We really are creatures of habit I suppose!

The Easiest Way To Overcome Anxiety

The short answer? There isn't one.

(This post is a little different to what I usually put up so if you're regular reader who's looking for more beauty posts, then I promise there will be more soon!)

If you've just found this post then it's more than likely you're in quite a desperate situation right now. I want to say how sorry I am because I've been there too. Searching the internet for any information that would help ease the anxious chaos in my mind and body. Unfortunately there isn't a quick solution, but I'm sure you know that already.

Hopes & Wishes For My Life In 2016

"Honesty"
It's safe to say 2015 wasn't my year. There's wasn't one specific thing about it that was particularly bad, in fact there were plenty of really great moments. It was just a bit of a non-event if that makes sense, nothing particularly exciting happened. There were no moments were I felt especially proud of myself, nothing for my Mum to boast about on facebook anyway! Oh boy this is a real downer isn't it! I guess in all honesty I'm just frustrated. I'm frustrated because I know that I could be in a much happier position in life and the only thing that's holding me back is me. Hopefully by the end of 2016 I will have had one big achievement to be proud of, whatever it may be.

What I Got For Christmas 2015

Every year I wonder whether I should do a 'What I got for Christmas' post, but they're always so popular and I love reading other peoples posts too. I guess everyone's just as nosey as I am!

I was incredibly spoilt by my lovely family this year and even though I've already said it, I just want to take the opportunity here again to say a huge thank you to them, I'm so incredibly grateful for all the lovely gifts I received this year. I've loved spending these last few days with my family, it's my absolute favourite thing about Christmas and I'm so incredibly lucky to have them in my life.

Celebrating Difference - Birthmarks + Tattoos

The blogging community is a great place for celebrating uniqueness and diversity, much more so than mainstream media. That's why I thought it would be a great idea to share with you something really special this week. My very beautiful big sister was born with a port wine stain birthmark which covers most of her right leg, as well as her foot and finishes at her lower back. It's not something that has ever bothered her nor does she feel the need to cover it up. Sure people stare but she and I both know that it's totally normal to want to look at something that you haven't ever seen before, the silly questions however she could do without! Not once has she ever wanted to be rid of her birthmark though, it's safe to say we inherited our 'Don't give a shit what other people think of you' attitude from our parents!

Dealing With Anxiety - Feel The Fear And Give It The Middle Finger

This Saturday I went to a rugby match at Twickenham. To say this was a big deal for me would be an understatement. I'm a big rugby fan but that's not the (only!) reason why it's a big deal. Getting there, that was a big deal. Fighting my way through the huge crowds of fans, that was a big deal. Sitting in a stadium with 60,000 people, well that was the biggest deal of all! You're probably wondering what it is I'm getting at. Well for the longest time I've had a fear of feeling trapped. Claustrophobia or agoraphobia, I've heard it been called both. It makes it difficult for me to do the simplest of things that other people might not even contemplate as being hard. Going to the cinema or theatre, I have to sit in an aisle seat just so I know I can get up and leave whenever I need to. Sitting in a busy bar or restaurant, it doesn't always trigger my anxiety but when it does all I can think of is that I need to get outside. Long car or train journeys I find panic inducing. I hate queueing for things, just the thought of not being able to leave the line makes my heart race. Airports are a particularly tough place for me, it's the thought that once you're through security that's it. You can't leave (which obviously you can!) or get some fresh air outside and these thoughts make me feel trapped and therefore anxious and panicky. Funnily enough the flying part has never been a problem, maybe it's knowing that I'm on my way somewhere that soothes my mind so I never feel trapped on a plane. Weird I know but it's just how my brain rationalises things.

Welcome To BEAUTYDRESSED.COM!

Welcome to BEAUTYDRESSED.COM, formerly known as A Girl Called Eleanor! Yep I've given my blog a whole new name! It's something I've been thinking about for quite a while now, mainly because I felt the previous name didn't really say anything about what my blog is about. It made it sound like a lifestyle blog when really it's a whole mix of things. So after much umming and ahhing, I decided on Beauty Dressed which better reflects both the fashion and beauty side of my blog as well as the lifestyle posts. This is obviously one of the big changes I was talking about in my previous post but another is that after two years of blogging I've finally decided to buy my own domain name! It's so exciting because it really feels like my own site now!

Are you ready for yet another change? Well it is safe to say my posts have been sporadic as of late but I'm fully commited now to posting at least 4 times a week with all new content which will include more outfit posts, product reviews, hauls and lots more new ideas too. I already have a few things up my sleeve!

Now feels like a really great time to start making these changes as I feel like I'm ready to start dedicating more time to my blog and turn it into something that I've thought about for a long while. Plus, I definitely think we're at the beginning of a new phase of blogging where people are finally taking notice and taking it more seriously and I don't want to get left behind. I really want to be a part of what's to come in the future of blogging.

At the end of the day though, I don't really want to change what my blog is about, I can already see the improvements I've made in my two years of blogging and I want to continue to improve and create great content that you guys will want to read.

Blog Makeover & Exciting Changes Ahead!

As I'm sure you've already noticed, A Girl Called Eleanor has had a serious makeover! It was much needed if I'm honest, the last blog design I had I created myself which meant it lacked quite a few professional finishes especially compared to other blogs. But now look at it, all shiny and new and it even has a fancy post slider at the top! Eeeep! It isn't quite finished however, I'm hoping to get a custom header designed in the next few weeks to make it a little more me but so far I'm really happy with how it's turned out!

The blog makeover is just one of many exciting changes I have planned for the coming weeks so keep your eyes peeled for lots more great stuff! As well as this, I will be upping my commitment towards the blog with far more regular posts and hopefully an increase in the quality of content too!

I really hope you guys love the new design as much as I do! Like I said, it will be getting tweaked over the coming weeks to make it more personal, it's all very exciting! If you have any ideas as to what sort of content you'd like to see more of then please let me know below! Maybe there are some posts which you've particularly liked and want me to do again? I'm always up for trying new ideas, I've got a few up my sleeve already!

Homemade Easter Treats

I hope everyone's enjoying the bank holiday weekend and for those of you who are celebrating, a very happy Easter to you! May your weekend be filled with plenty of chocolate and hot cross buns! I don't normally do anything different for Easter besides buying the usual mountain of Easter Eggs for everyone but an afternoon spent round at my sister's house totally inspired me to get creative. Basically we wanted to spend less than we normally would on Easter eggs and yet create something even more special and thoughtful.

So with a small budget in mind we headed off to our local Poundland to check out what (if any!) Easter bits they had in store. Turns out they had loads of cute bits and pieces, we really could have spent so much more than we did! There was tons of Easter themed crafty bits, my favourite of which where the little baskets and other things to create your own egg hunt. I seriously can't wait to have kids, I'm really going to go all out with that kind of thing! In the end though we bought this great pack which included cellophane bags decorated with eggs and bunnies, tissue paper in assorted pastel colours and little ribbon ties, so we could make our own Easter treat bags. All for a pound too, bargain!

To fill the bags we chose assorted bags of mini eggs, Cadbury dairy milk mini eggs, mini Malteaster bunnies and Cadbury Creme Eggs to go in each as well as some fluffy little Easter chicks to finish them off. They took less than five minutes to put together and only cost about £3 per head, about half the price of your average Easter egg! Then we had the idea to make some simple but extra yummy chocolate nest cakes which again, took about 5 minutes to make but I already know they'll be a big hit with my family today! Oh and if you're wondering, the cake stand also came from Poundland last year, I  thought the colours of it fitted perfectly with my Easter theme!

So if you find yourself doing a last minute mad dash round the shops looking for the last remaining Easter eggs, why not try my ideas instead! I guarantee your friends and family will appreciate the thought you put in to these way more than a Peppa Pig or Bob the Builder Easter egg cause we all know that's all they'll have left!

What do you guys think of our Easter treats we created? Have you made anything special for Easter? Be sure to let me know below!

The Lifelong Struggle Of Having A Babyface

I am the not so proud owner of a babyface and I hate it. Soon I'll be 22 and yet I still look 15 or 16. Even when I was really young I looked younger. My huge, squirrel like cheeks that people just loved to squeeze didn't help the matter and much to my annoyance they still haven't disappeared. I know, I know, "When you're older, you'll be happy to look so much younger". I've heard it all before but really I'd just be happy to look my actual age, no more and no less.

Here's some the worst things that occur from me having a baby face, I'm sure there's plenty of you fellow babyfaces out there who will relate!

  • Being refused a lottery ticket because I had no ID on me. The age limit is 16.
  • Sitting in an emergency exit row on a plane and being asked my age by the air stewardess to check I was old enough to sit there.
  • Only ever getting checked out by 15 year old boys. Eww.
  • The 'Nice Try' look people give me before they ask for ID when I'm buying alcohol. Same goes for getting in to any bar or club and sometimes even just to be in a pub after 8pm!
  • Delivery men asking if I have the day off school. Cue much awkwardness as I tell them I finished school SIX YEARS AGO!
  • Never being able to pull off looking 'sexy', instead I just look ridiculous.
  • Being condescendingly spoken to by teenage shop assistants. I'm older than you dammit!

I suppose it's not all bad though. I mean, my parents both look at least 10 years younger than they actually are and true fact, my Dad was once asked for his ID in a bar when he was in his mid forties! I guess you could say the babyface gene runs in the family and so what if I have 20 more years ahead of me of being asked for ID, I'll pass it over with my chubby cheeks held high. Just god forbid anyone who tries to squeeze them.

Best Posts Of 2014

I didn't really do as much blogging as I would have liked in 2014, I had a really bad case of bloggers block that just wouldn't budge! Looking back on 2014 however there was surprisingly still quite a lot of posts to choose from for my best posts of the year. I've chosen a mix of the most popular posts as well as some of my favourite posts for you to get stuck into, enjoy!

A review of one of my favourite new releases of 2014 and also my most popular post of the year, seems you guys are big fans too!

This mascara has a firm place in my makeup bag since it's release at the beginning of 2014 and good news, they've just brought out a new version! be sure to keep an eye out for a review on my blog soon.

Another firm favourite of mine this year were the Bourjois liquid lipsticks. I just wish I could wear this colour more often, I need to go on more nights out!

This year I discovered all things french, specifically the amazing skincare that became more available in the UK. La Roche Posay has been my skin saviour of 2014!

Another favourite with the readers, the pop and glow blush stick also became one of mine too, I just love makeup that's portable!

I'm lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel quite a bit and one of my favourite trips of 2014 was this one I took to Amsterdam with my lovely Mum.

I had a completely unforgettable time in Italy this summer, I finally got to tick off Italy as one of the countries I was most desperate to visit. I really have been so lucky this year to visit such amazing places!

2014 was the year I really tried to get my butt into gear so I made a list. Since I've made the post I can cross off a few more things on the list too!

Talking about something I haven't really mentioned on my blog before was a little daunting to say the least but it was the one post I really wanted to write in 2014 and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

This was my first of TWO trips to the Harry Potter Studio Tour in 2015, what can I say, I love Harry Potter. I was completely blown away by the place, it really is magical!

I really wanted to do more outfit posts in 2014 but it just didn't happen. If I have one aim for my blog this year it will definitely be to do more.

YOU Beauty Advent Calendar - Day 4

Today's treat behind the door was a full sized Essie nail polish in the shade 'lots of lux' from the Encrusted Treasures collection. It's a gorgeous shimmering blue with a matte finish. The matte texture actually surprised me a little, it isn't something I've ever really come across before. The glitter is small but chunky and I can only really compare it to the same finish as sandpaper but without the scratchiness! It is a beautiful colour though and perfect for the Christmas season!

YOU Beauty Advent Calendar - Day 3

Day 4 of the YOU Beauty Advent Calendar brought me one of my all time favourite fragrances, the Molton Brown Orange & Bergamont body wash. My Mum is a huge fan of Molton Brown and regularly buys the Orange & Bergamont hand wash so I already know this fragrance and I absolutely love it. In fact as I write this I've already used up the whole bottle!

I can't stress how excited I am to open this up every morning and the quality of products has really impressed me. I forgot to mention too that each little door has a quote from the brand/brand creator which is a really cute idea!

Christmas Gift Guide - For Dads

Dad's have to be far and away the most difficult to buy for at Christmas, well in my experience anyway. Ever year my Dad asks for a motorbike, sorry Dad but that's not gonna happen on my budget!

If I'm honest I think it's best just to ask directly if there's anything they'd particularly like but if you're looking for a surprise gift then there's all kinds of things included in my gift guide. I've tried to pick gifts to suit every Dad, all for £50 or less too.

What will you be getting your Dad for Christmas? Let me know below if you have any better ideas than mine!

YOU Beauty Advent Calendar - Day 1

It's finally advent calendar time, I'v been looking forward to this moment for weeks and weeks! Can you tell I'm REALLY big on Christmas?! Especially so this year as my Mum very kindly treated me to the YOU Beauty Advent Calendar as a surprise!

There are over £250 worth of products in the calendar including some really great high end brands which is just incredible!  I thought it might be fun to share what I find behind the door each day just like I did with my Ciate Advent Calendar last year so scroll down to see what was behind door number one!

For the first day of December I was treated to a mini Liz Earl Cleanse and Polish with muslin cloth and a handy little cleansing guide. This is just the perfect first gift for me as I am a huge fan of Liz Earle and the Cleanse and Polish especially and it's one of the main cleansers I use. I reckon I'll save it to use for when I go away but having an extra muslin cloth is always handy seeing as mine always seem to get lost in the wash!

Overall I'm really chuffed with the first day's treat, it's a brand I know and love and I will most definitely get a lot of use out of it. So far so good! I can't begin to describe how excited I am about seeing what's behind tomorrow's door! Eeep!

Have you got a beauty advent calendar this  year? Or maybe you think they are just a waste of money!? Let me know below!

Christmas Gift Guide - For Mums

So by now most of us have already started our Christmas shopping but it is nearly December so it's aloud! The Christmas gift guides I did on my blog last year were by far some of my most popular posts so I couldn't really not do them again this year. I absolutely love putting them together, it's so much fun and it gives me some really great ideas for gifts I can buy my own family too!

So lets start with Mum's, or any other lovely ladies you may have in your life! They generally know what they want and will tell you but it's always nice to get them a surprise gift too! All the ideas I've included are £35.00 or less so there's something to suit all budgets. The next gift guide will follow soon!

Have you started you're christmas shopping yet? Let me know below!

5 Things I'm Thankful To My Anxiety Disorder For

This post was originally going to be the story of how I got diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder but a few paragraphs in I deleted everything I had written. The reason? Well if I'm honest it made for a really quite dull and depressing read! I don't know about you but I only tend to read stories that have happy endings and I haven't quite reached my happy ending yet. I'm getting there though, don't you worry!

Instead I've decided to focus on all the positive things I've gained from living with an anxiety disorder. Yep you heard me! Here's 5 things I'm thankful for my anxiety disorder having taught me:

1. Empathy. I've always been quite an empathetic person, some would say 'sensitive', but I've become even more so since having to deal with an anxiety disorder. My anxiety levels can leave me feeling short tempered, angry and antisocial amongst other things. So now when I come across a stranger who's rude, instead of feeling angry at them I think 'Who know's what they're dealing with?' or 'Maybe they've had a bad day' and instantly my anger extinguishes.

2. I'm a pro in nerve-wracking situations! My family and I often joke that I probably cope better during nervous situations than most other people because I've had so much practise at it! For example I passed my driving test first time this year and I think the only reason I passed first time was because I had had practise at dealing with those kind of nerves before.

3. Honesty is the best policy. I used to be one of those people who liked to keep their feelings hidden from everyone around them until I was forced to talk about my feelings to a professional. There's something about pouring your heart and soul out to a complete stranger that feels absolutely incredible! You'd be amazed at just how many people you meet who have their own stories about anxiety or other mental illnesses and just how kind and understanding people can be once you start being honest.

4. The strongest people are fighting a hidden battle. Some would call people with mental illnesses weak, they say to 'just get over it' or 'pull yourself together'. I'd say that people living with mental illnesses are some of the strongest people you'll ever meet. They have lives to get on with, people to see and things to do, all the while fighting daily with an illness they have no control over. If that isn't a sign of strength then I don't know what is!

5. The realisation that nobody is 'normal'! For the best part of two years I berated myself for not being 'normal'. Thankfully I eventually came to the realisation that normal doesn't exist because my interpretation of normal is completely different from everyone else's. Neither is right or wrong, I'm me and you're you and that's ok!

A Weekend In Italy

Last month I travelled to Italy for a four day stay on the beautiful Lake Maggiore, the second largest of the Italian lakes. It was my first ever visit to Italy and my god was I excited! Ever since I first watched Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday it's been a country I've always longed to visit and I definitely wasn't disappointed!  It has to be one of the most beautiful places I've ever been! There's just something about it, I think it's a mix of the history, the culture and the language which creates somewhere that's totally enchanting yet doesn't seem quite real.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather during our visit as with it's close proximity to the alps it tends to be a bit hit or miss around this time of the year. Fortunately it was around 23 degrees celsius each day and warm enough to sit outside of the restaurants during the evening. The beautiful clear skies also meant that I got some great shots of the Borromean Islands which are just off the shore between the towns of Verbania and Stresa.

A short boat ride took us out to each island, Isola Bella, Isola Madre, Isola dei Pescatori and Isolino di San Giovanni. I think we paid around 10 euros for a boat ride which took us round all the islands giving us an hour to explore on each one. That might not sound like much time but considering it took literally 5-10 mins to casually stroll from one end to the other on each island, believe me it was plenty! There was a gorgeous English style palace on one of the islands that unfortunately was closed off to the public as well as plenty of little stalls selling knick knacks on the rest of the islands and lots of lovely restaurants to have lunch and amazing photo opportunities.

We decided to forgo the busy restaurants and grab some lunch from a little delicatessen to eat on the harbour front. Unfortunately because of the language barrier we ended up with two half loaves of dry bread with a huge chunk of cheese stuck in the middle for our sandwiches! Mental note: learn some basic Italian other than how to say 'Hello' and 'Goodbye' before your next visit!

We stayed in an apartment in Arona which was only about a half hour drive from Milan Malpensa Airport and made a great base to explore that part of Lake Maggiore. A 20 minute drive further north took us to some really beautiful towns with the most incredible views over the lake. I ended up taking  loads of photos everywhere we went but unfortunately because the sun was so bright most of them ended being so over exposed and therefore useless!

On the last day we decided to go up to the Rocca di Angera, an 11th century castle situated high up on a hill above the town of Angera. It had the most beautiful views but again all of the pictures I took of the castle were too over exposed so you'll just have to google it to see for yourself. We didn't really know anything about the place before we visited, we thought we'd just be able to wonder round inside as well as the grounds of the castle. Turns out it's actually one of the largest dolls museums in Europe! There were dolls everywhere, thousands of them staring out at you from behind the glass and I freaked out big time! I've had a huge fear of dolls for as long as I can remember (except Barbie's obviously!) but a particular memory has stayed with me of a ventriloquists dummy a magician brought along with him to my sixth birthday party. It ended up with me running out of the room and refusing to go back inside thus missing half the party!

It's safe to say we didn't really stick around the castle for long but don't let me put you off, if you don't happen to have a silly fear of dolls like I do then it would be a great place to explore!

I'm already planning a trip back to next year, hopefully to southern Italy. Pompeii especially is one place I've always wanted to visit and the Amalfi Coast looks beautiful too. Have any of you guys visited or maybe live in Italy and have some suggestions on where I should visit next? Let me know below!

Poppy Installation At The Tower Of London

If you're in London any time between now and November 11th I'd highly recommend taking a trip over to Tower Hill to visit the gorgeous poppy installation at the Tower Of London. 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas Of Red' was created by artist Paul Cummins and stage designer Tom Piper to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the first world war. Over eight hundred thousand ceramic poppies will eventually fill the Tower's moat, each of which is currently being put in place by hundreds of volunteers who were hurriedly working away when we visited last weekend.

I'll definitely be making a trip back once it's finished when you wont be able to see any green at all! It really is an incredible sight, it looks so much more impressive in person and these pictures don't really do it justice.

If you want to know a bit more about the installation, visit their website -
